Clearing Out and Amending My No Till Garden Beds

Today we’re diving deep into the preparations for the fall garden, including clearing out and amending the raised beds. We’re tackling four beds, dealing with the aftermath of sun hemp cover crops, and amending the soil for optimal growth. Stick around as I share my process and some gardening tips to elevate your fall garden.

Clearing Out My Beds:

The first task on my agenda today is clearing out the existing plants in the four beds which is essential before be begin amending them. I’ll showcase my method of handling overgrown plants and unruly vines, emphasizing the importance of prepping the garden space for the upcoming fall planting. It’s a hands-on process for me.

Sun Hemp Cover Crop:

Next up, I’ll be dealing with the sun hemp cover crop, a nitrogen-rich plant. I’ll chop it down to become a valuable mulch. Trimming and cutting the sun hemp, provides nitrogen to the soil. The harvested sunn hemp will also serve as an organic mulch for other beds. This plant material will enrich the soil for the next planting.

Dealing with Luffa Plants:

Ah, facing a challenge with an overpowering luffa plant. Despite the unexpected weather interruptions, including a rainstorm, I’ll persevere through the task of dismantling the luffa and making space for the fall garden.

Soil Amendment Process:

Now, to ensure optimal soil nutrition, I’ll introduce a balanced blend of fertilizers tailored to the specific needs of each bed. I meticulously measure out granulated chicken manure, bone meal, blood meal, and kelp meal to enhancing the soil health. Then, I’ll incorporate the amendments into the soil, setting the stage for robust plant growth.
